Jim Law has long been recognized as one of the great
scholars and experimenters of Virginia viticulture. His wines
have won many awards. Several years ago he gave the KOV a
compelling education on the differences that soils and the face of the
hillside to the sun make within a small area – soils and microclimate.
For our benefit and education, Jim has composed an exceptional
educational experience with Virginia wines. Our friends with
Portofino Restaurant have responded with flourish. The following
is proposed, but not concluded, and subject to change:
Social Wines
Villa Appalaccia Pinot Gris
Villa Appalaccia Toscano Red
Broiled Sea Scallops with Boudin Blanc Sausage with Lime Butter
Linden Avenius Sauvignon Blanc
Whitehall Chardonnay
Pear and Nut Salad
Chrysalis Viognier
Keswick Viognier
Stuffed Veal Bocconcini with Cabernet Mushroom Sauce
Windam Cabernet Franc, 2001
Michael Shaps Cabernet Franc, 2001
Horton Norton, 1998
Parmesan, Mild Blue Vein, and Aged Gouda Cheeses
Barboursville Octagon, 1998
Valhalla ??
Linden Hardscrabble, 1998
I doubt we may be able to repeat this exceptional
experience of enjoying Virginia wines with appropriate foods.
Because Jim Law is so widely respected in the Virginia wine community,
he is able to provide the wines at an exceptional discount that he is
passing to us. The charge is $58 per member and first
guest. The seating is absolutely limited to 25.

The details still need to be worked out. Those who have
attended these tours have been fortunate to experience the details of
the complexity of making wine given by proprietors who are intense in
their commitment.
THE GRAND ASSEMBLAGE: INDUCTION
AND ENTHRONEMENT DINNER
Caucus
Room • 401 9th Street, NW, Washington, DC
May 1st • 6:00 p.m.
Formal Attire; Tastevins
Already wines are being assembled and a grand menu prepared. But
WHERE can we hold the Enthronement Dinner? Proprietor Michael
Sternberg welcomed us to the Caucus Room at 401 9th Street NW for the
dinner and, in case of inclement weather, the ceremony. The Chef,
Richard Beckel, worked with Master Knight Frank Denniston when Master
Knight Denniston hosted our Assemblages at Heritage Hunt. Chef
Beckel knows what we expect for an Enthronement Dinner.
But WHERE can we best hold the Induction Ceremony? The US Capitol
is the greatest symbol of freedom and democracy. The Grant
Memorial and Reflecting Pool provides the most spectacular view of the
paramount symbol of freedom and democracy. We have requested from
the Architect of the Capitol permission to use this unparalleled
location for our ceremony.
The Grand Assemblage will be held the evening of May 1 with the
Enthronement Dinner in the Caucus Room. Of course, we cannot yet
promise the location of the ceremony, but we can promise an excellent
event.
