Heeeeee’s Back! Master Knight George Foote will
give the Nation’s Capital Chapter another masterful educational wine
tasting on Saturday, May 28th. Many who have attended numerous
wines tastings given by other groups comment that the presentations by
Master Knight Foote to our Chapter are the most informative and
educational wine tastings they have ever attended.
Master Knight Foote now represents the
Chateau Ste. Michelle,
the oldest winery in Washington State. Chateau Ste. Michelle is the
2004 recipient of the coveted “American Winery of the Year” award from
Wine Enthusiast Magazine. We will taste
eight to ten wines
from the winery group.
Our friends at the Portofino Restaurant have proposed a
luscious two-course selection
of delightful tastes to accompany the wines. The proposed menu is as follows:
White Wine Course
Smoked Rainbow Ttrout with Arrugula and Saffron Mayonnaise
Marinated Sea Scallop
Gnocchi in Parmesan Cream Sauce
Domaine Ste. Michelle Blanc de Noir
Chateau Ste Michelle/Dr. Ernst Loosen, "Erotica" Riesling
Chateau Ste. Michelle/"Indian Wells" Chardonnay
Red Wine Course
Roasted Red Pepper and Gorgonzola Bruschetta
Brasciolette (Beef) Stuffed with Lemon and Rosemary in Merlot Sauce
Baked Portobello Stuffed with Parmesan and Ground Mushrooms
with Balsamic and Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Chateau Ste. Michelle Reserve Syrah
Chateau Ste. Michelle/Piereo Antinori, col Solare

been sold out a number of times, you may reserve your places by
submitting a check for the appropriate amount to
check to Master Exchequer Joe Alt at 8201 Tis Well Drive, Alexandria, VA 22306.
WINERY TOUR AND PICNIC
Four Distinctive Virginia Wineries
June 18th • 10:00
a.m.
Master Exchequer Joe Alt has prudently planned, keeping costs in mind,
an excellent schedule for touring four distinctive wineries in comfort
and style and without the undue concern of imbibing of liquids issued
from the fruits of the vine. As envisioned, we shall meet at a
convenient location near Fairfax, Virginia, to board a suitable coach
to take us to the first, and furthest out, winery to taste the golden
nectar of the vine. No doubt, after such a long dusty coach ride, the
wine will be so sweet in appreciation, yet some of the wines gratefully
dry for us, the thirsty traveler. Thereupon, we shall go by coach to a
second vineyard to enjoy a pastoral picnic with the wines of this
vineyard. Although the setting may not be painted by Gainsborough, it
will be near, as permitted in modern day, to what he actually observed.
Thereupon, we shall visit two more wineries offering the reward of
their fruits. Subsequently, we shall return to Fairfax about 4:30 p.m.
refreshed and invigorated by thegreat complexity and beauty of Virginia, its vineyards, and wines.
GRAB BAG: CHERISHED, CHEEKY PINKS
Davis Home • Arlington, VAJuly 20th • 7:30 p.m.
Many “Wine Experts” dismiss pink wines. Some, no doubt, think of the
Mateus or Lancers they drank in their youth. Other, younger “Wine
Experts”, think of “Blush Zinfandel” and other “Blush” wines.
A few wine experts recognize that pink wines (French or other
Rosés) offer a wonderful diversity of aromas and tastes and
often offer great complexity. The wines are perfect with a multitude of
foods, particularly the light courses of summer. Once realized in their
proper place, the delight and joy of these wines comes forth.
In the open setting of the home of Master Scribe Russ and Gentle Lady
Nancy Davis, we shall enjoy a variety of delightful, cherished, cheeky
pinks. The wines and the light foods are up to you. Each person, or
couple, is asked to contribute a bottle of “pink” and a light dish. As
in the past, the complexity of the wines may vary widely, but the
camaraderie will always be there. Details to follow.
